The virtual presentation by Dr. Peter Eley, Interim Chair of the Health, Physical and Secondary Education Department, was voted most creative presentation of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics IGNITE conference held virtually February 1 – 6. This presentation uses the math principle of the common denominator to address cultural diversity and as a means of learning to work together. The citation from Natalie Holliman, NCTM, read “the genius behind the news broadcast was commendable. It was unique and you used the technology (Virtual) aspect to your advantage”. In addition to the challenge provided by the topic, Dr. Eley had to present 20 slides that advanced every 15 seconds in a way that would ignite passion for teaching all children. During this Black History month, Dr. Eley’s presentation is a good look and listen for all of us. Finding the Common Denominator by Dr. Peter Eley on youtube.
